In our latest blog, we explored the power of acceptance and how the wisdom of the element Water helps us embrace life’s challenges. Acceptance doesn’t mean inaction; from that place of acceptance, we can take action using the element of Fire to do so. Fire gives us the discipline to become who we aspire to be. How do we tap into this fiery energy within us? Are you ready to get rid of old baggage that no longer serves you? Read on to discover how!

Burn the Old, Make Space for the New

Just as controlled fires in nature remove dead layers to allow new growth, we must sometimes burn away old habits and attachments to make space for the new. Although we know certain habits or people aren’t good for us, we cling to them out of familiarity and fear of the unknown. We get attached to feelings of stress, anger and frustration because this is familiar territory and we use things in the outer world to reaffirm that feeling. This is an invitation to embrace the unknown and step into the person you want to be.

Visualizing Your Best Self

What kind of life would you have if money wasn’t an issue? And who do you need to become to live this kind of life? What are the personality traits this person has? When I want to be a successful business owner I need to be able to have a vision, be resilient and have perseverance. When I want to have a loving relationship, I need to be loving, kind, attentive, supporting. When I want to have a lot of money, I need to be someone who is able to manage his money. You get the point. When we get clear on what kind of person we want to be, every day can be a success. We may not control situations, but we can control our actions. Ask yourself: How would the best version of me handle this situation?

Embracing the Unknown

When Remy and I lived in Amsterdam with office jobs, we longed for change but didn’t know what it would look like. We quit our jobs, gave up our homes and traveled for over a year. It took us a while to get used to that feeling of ‘not knowing’. Not knowing what would come after this trip, not knowing where we would live or what kind of job we would have. I was worried about the unknown and had trouble enjoying the moment and the freedom we had. The moment I started to feel ok with not knowing what would come next, new ideas came up. I started learning about new things because I loved it, not because I had to pass an exam. Traveling expands your horizon and during that year of traveling the idea of starting a place like Eden arose.

Life’s Natural Rhythm

Indian Mythology teaches us that everything in life goes through a cycle of creation, maintenance and destruction. Staying too long in our comfort zone leads to inevitable destruction, paving the way for new creation. If there is one thing we know for sure is that everything in life changes. The moment we get too comfortable, life happens and we need to adapt. Change is that one thing that is consistent in our life. What if we would totally embrace change? What if we trust ourselves that we are made to cope with change, that this is how we evolve. When the elements Water and Fire work together, we are accepting to change and the easier transformation unfolds.

Focus on What Makes You Feel Good

Water teaches us to accept our current situation, even if it’s unpleasant. From that place of acceptance we can choose whether to take action. In some things in life we do have control. We have a choice on what we are giving our attention to. What are the things or people that drain your energy and what are the things that bring you energy? What are the things that make you feel good? It usually doesn’t require anything from the outside world. Most of the time it is just a matter of shifting your attention to the things that are right in front of us.

Live Life Like a Retreat

At Eden on the Chocolata, our yoga retreats encourage reflection on your life, your desired life, and the actions needed to become the person you want to be. We help you raise self-awareness and incorporate positive habits into your daily life to be that person who we want to be. In our bonfire and Temazcal ceremonies we symbolically burn old baggage you carry with you, making space for your best self to shine. We can’t wait to take you on that transformative journey!  Book here
